Stuck on Repeat, Vol. 1

Tear in My Heart - Twenty One Pilots
For any of you who know me, Twenty One Pilots has been stuck on repeat since middle school. I can still picture myself on those sticky brown plastic bus seats, corded headphones plugged into my iPod, completely in my own world.
So when this one shuffled into my commute the other morning, it felt right at home.
"I'm driving here I sit, cursing my government, for not using my taxes to fill holes with more cement."
This should be Massachusetts's state anthem. I commute to the office four days a week, and as if Greater Boston traffic isn't enough of a struggle on a random Tuesday, I fear for my life at least five times a day as my 11-year-old Toyota RAV4 clunks over a pothole big enough for a small child to swim in. The stomach drop of oh sh** is that the one that finally kills my tire — does, in fact, leave a Tear in My Heart every single time.
Now, the song itself is more of a love song. I know.
"You fell asleep in my car, I drove the whole time, but that's okay, I'll just avoid the holes so you sleep fine."
And to that I giggle — joyous, not mischievous. Maybe a little bit of both. My fiancé is one of the most dramatic humans I know, and I love him immensely for it. Every time I'm driving and he's in the passenger seat, without fail, I'll hit a gnarly pothole and he lets out some pained sigh like he's been injured in battle. To which I always rebut: "The entire road is a pothole, I can't avoid them."
Tyler Joseph was just trying to write a sweet song about going out of your way for someone you love. Alas, Massachusetts will not let me follow suit.
